In the last two decades, large surveys have covered almost the whole sky in different wavelengths, providing an unprecedented wealth of data to deeply investigate the physical processes that have caused the formation of large structures down to the smallest galaxies. While photometric surveys are the best and most efficient way to study the global properties of the Universe by imaging large portions of the sky, spectroscopic surveys are devoted to determine the redshift of galaxies, to map their distribution across time and space, and accurately associate them to cosmic structures. I will talk about the importance of performing highly complete large spectroscopic surveys and specific spectroscopic investigations in order to shed light on the galaxy formation and evolution scenario, and I will present the results from ongoing works I am currently leading and participating in.
