Critical phenomena in classical systems with extended disorder and replica symmetry breaking effects

We have studied the critical behavior of classical systems with quenched disorder using renormalization group technique.
In particular we have analyzed the critical properties of a system with anisotropic disorder (i.e. disorder which is short-range correlated in some directions and decays as power law in the remaining ones).
Phys. Lett. A 264, 214 (1999).
We have also investigated the effects of the Parisi replica symmetry breaking scheme on critical behavior of a d-dimensional system with extended impurities.

Quantum critical behavior of itinerant disordered ferromagnets

The theory of QPT, i.e. phase transitions that occur at zero temperature driven by a non-thermal parameter, is an important problem which is relevant in many topics in condensed matter physics.
The presence of quenched disorder introduces in this problem additional troubles and several still open questions, especially concerning the effective role played by the competition between quantum and disorder fluctuations.
One of the most obvious example of QPT is perhaps the T=0 transition from a paramagnet to an itinerant ferromagnet. For this problem an effective field theory has been derived, keeping explicitly all soft modes [Phys. Rev. B 63, 174427 (2001)]. The solution of this effective field theory, has allowed to determine the quantum critical behavior of this systems and its consequences on the transport properties [Phys. Rev. B 63, 174428 (2001)].
